Tamara Rojo is the Artistic Director of English National Ballet. This is her directing and choreography debut, and by all accounts it's extraordinary. Rojo's brilliant version of the classic ballet remains faithful to Alexander Glazunov's beautiful musical score, and the original tale has been given a substantial contemporary twist thanks to a determined heroine who is totally in charge of her own destiny. Welcome to the world premiere of Raymonda by English National Ballet. The drama takes place at the London Coliseum for January 2022.
The plot? It's 1854. Raymonda runs away from her comfortable, boring English life to join Florence Nightingale treating the wounded on the Crimea. She soon becomes engaged to John, a soldier, but she's distracted by his magnificent friend Abdur, a leader in the Ottoman army. Who will she choose? This unusual ballet is a delight from start to finish, a ballet you'll remember and a performance that's just as exceptional as you'd expect from our national ballet company. Prepare to be amazed!
