The magical stage adaption of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away is coming to London’s Coliseum in April 2024 for a strictly limited three month season. The original animated movie’s plot has been beautifully re-imagined for the stage by the respected Olivier and Tony Award-winning director of Les Misérables, John Caird, co-adapted by Marko Imai. The adaptation wowed Japanese venues through 2022 on tour, and the West End run features extraordinary puppets, an amazing set, vivid costume designs, and a live orchestra playing the original film score by Joe Hisaishi.
True to the 2001 Japanese movie, the show follows Chihiro on her bizarre and charming quest through the spirit world to save her parents, who have mysteriously been transformed into pigs. The original Japanese cast includes Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi, who alternate the role of Chihiro, and this is the show’s European premiere. Prepare to be delighted, inspired and intrigued by what John Caird calls “Hayao Miyazaki's magical world of gods and frogs, dragons and sorcerers, giant-sized babies and bouncing heads, spider-armed boilermen, no-faced loners and a young girl’s valiant quest for courage, identity and love."
