Ballet de Santiago Swan Lake

Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake follows Prince Siegfried, told he must choose a bride, who meets Odette at a lakeside at night. She and her companions have been turned into swans by the sorcerer von Rothbart, and the spell lifts only between dusk and dawn. Siegfried swears to love her alone, which would break it, but at the ball where he must choose, Rothbart presents his own daughter Odile in Odette's likeness and the prince gives his vow to the wrong woman.

Ballet de Santiago, the resident company of the Municipal de Santiago, Ópera Nacional de Chile, makes its UK debut with these performances, accompanied by the English National Opera Orchestra. The staging is by Ivan Nagy and Marilyn Burr after the original choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, and the company is led by artistic director César Morales, a former principal with Birmingham Royal Ballet and English National Ballet. The Irish Times gave the production four stars in Dublin, making this a chance to see one of Latin America's leading companies dance the best known ballet of them all.
